The reason for this is fairly simple: "csv" stands for "comma separated values", and VBA "thinks the American way" and doesn't use the local settings (here: semicolon). It is easy to open a csv file in Excel, you just double-click the icon, and doing it with an Excel VBA macro is also straigthforward, unless it is a semicolon-delimited file. The read.csv() method is used to import a CSV file, and it is best suitable for the small CSV files. In this tutorial, we will explore all the 3 methods and see how we can import the CSV file. There are 3 popular methods available to import CSV files into R. In this article, we will learn how to import CSV files into R with the help of examples. CSV files are popular formats for storing tabular data, i.e. A comma-separated values (CSV) file is a delimited text file that uses a comma to separate the values.

![]() Rub' al Khali or Empty Quarter is the largest sand desert on earth. Other historical references in the eighth and 12th centuries place it ‘between Shisr and Sanaa’ or ‘between Hadramawt and Subub’, and in the 11th century the Arab historian Nashwan bin Said al-Himyari describes Ubar as ‘the land which belonged to the ‘Ad in the eastern part of the Yemen today it is untrodden desert owing to the drying up of its water’.Īll of these are broadly in the southern part of the Empty Quarter and in southwestern Oman, inland from the area where frankincense was produced, a highly-valued incense which was grown along this coast and traded with the countries to the north via camel trains across the Empty Quarter. The earliest mention is in Ptolemy’s Guide to Geography of 150 AD in which he lists the tribes living in Arabia as including the Iobaritae or ‘people of Ubar’ and locates them in the Empty Quarter. References to Ubar pre-date the Arabian Nights however. A similar story is mentioned in the Quran, where it is said that the city of Iram lies in the region of Ubar and was built by the ‘Ad tribe, but that it was destroyed by a violent sandstorm after its people rejected the message of Islam brought to them by the prophet Hud. It is the City of Many-Columned Iram, built by King Shaddad of the ‘Ad tribe at great expense over many years, but when he came to occupy it he was struck dead by Allah as a warning against pride. Where lies the mysterious lost city of Ubar? ( CC BY-SA 3.0 ), ( CC BY-SA 3.0 ) Deriv He gathers up as much treasure as he can carry (fortunately he had found his camel to help him), and later discovers the story of the city. One of the stories is about a man named Abdullah bin Ali Kalibah who goes out into the desert one day to search for his lost camel and finds a magnificent abandoned city decorated with pearls and precious gems, and lofty towers that seem to hang in the air. Illustration from "One Thousand and One Nights" ( Public Domain ) The Original Lost City Eventually after a thousand and one nights, the king spares her life and they live happily ever after. Thus starts a series of nightly stories, every one of them ending on a cliffhanger, a sort of medieval forerunner of the weekly TV series. Scheherazade finishes the tale…but then begins another. ![]() In the morning, curious to know how the tale ends, Shahyrar spares her life in order that she can finish the story that night. Eventually he marries Scheherazade, who on the night of their marriage begins to tell him a tale, but does not finish it. He then marries a succession of virgins, but because of his anger over his first wife’s infidelity he has each one executed in the morning before she has a chance to dishonor him. The basic premise is well known: A Persian king Shahyrar discovers that his wife has been unfaithful and has her executed. The stories proved so popular that it was translated to English two years later and has been in print ever since. In 1704 it made its first appearance in Europe when it was translated into French, and at that time even more tales were added including some of the best-known ones such as Aladdin’s Lamp, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, and the Voyages of Sindbad the Sailor. In the 13th century more were added from Egypt and Syria. Over time it grew, perhaps in an attempt to bulk up the text to reach the number of tales promised in the title, with stories added in the ninth and tenth centuries from Iraq, including many about the Caliph Harun al-Rashid, the fifth Caliph who lived in Baghdad in the late eighth century.ĭuring the reign of the Harun al-Rashid, the city of Baghdad began to flourish as a center of knowledge, culture and trade. The earliest version is thought to have been based on folk tales from India and Persia and was probably written in the ninth century in Syria. One Thousand and One NightsĪlso known as The One Thousand and One Nights, the story of the book itself is almost as much of a tale of mystery as the stories it includes. The myth of the Arabian ‘lost city of the desert’ can be traced to a book of bedtime stories dating from the early ninth century, which was largely responsible for the European romantic perception of Arabia as a place of harems, flying carpets, genies and miscellaneous magic of all kinds – the Arabian Nights. 28 Jan Atlantis of the Sands and The Lost City of Ubar: Lost, Found, and Lost Again ![]() Archive file Create Time: Files: 2 Total size: 18.11MB Seeders: . 2046 items - ExpanDrive 7.6.3 - Includes License. How to Recover Deleted Files and Folders Using PhotoRec WARNINGĭO NOT STORE THE RESTORED FILES ON THE SAME PARTITION WHOSE FILES YOU ARE RECOVERING. Extract the downloaded TestDisk Zip (.zip file).Download TestDisk from their official download page mentioned below: PhotoRec comes inside the TestDisk Zip file.Thorough Disk Scanning and Data Recovery.PhotoRec Homepage: Benefits of Using PhotoRec Unlike TestDisk, PhotoRec has GUI version of itself called QPhotoRec. In addition, it is also available on all of the operating systems that are supported by TestDisk. Like TestDisk, PhotoRec is also an open-source program, and is distributed under the GNU GPL license. It is a complete data recovery program, which can be used to recover deleted photos, audio, video, documents, and other file types from hard disks, memory cards, CD/DVD, USB drives, and other portable multimedia devices. It may have the word Photo in its title but it does not recover only photos. While TestDisk is focussed on recovering lost data from the whole disk or partitions, PhotoRec is aimed at the recovery of specific files and folders. Recently, the graphical interface QPhotoRec was developed for PhotoRec.PhotoRec is developed by, CGSecurity, the same developers who make TestDisk. TestDisk only works via the command line. Aside from Linux, both tools are available for various BSD versions as well as for Solaris, Mac OS, and Windows. TestDisk can repair the following filesystems: FAT, Btrfs, and HFS+. However, it can also deal with almost 450 different file formats, mainly in the areas of multimedia and office. PhotoRec was developed as recovery software for photos on the internal or the external storage medium for digital cameras. TestDisk is primarily responsible for recovering partitions, partition tables, the Master Boot Record (MBR), and data that have been deleted. This makes sense because PhotoRec is a useful extension for TestDisk, and the two pieces of software are often used in tandem. The software described here usually comes as a double package in most distributions. However, the costs associated with this type of approach are often too high for private users. A lot more can be done in a laboratory setting that offers clean room technology and direct work on the magnetic disk platters. However the more that data is written to the disk – potentially overwriting the disk areas containing the deleted data – the less likely it is that a typical home user with common tools like TestDisk and PhotoRec will be able to recover lost data. (See the box "What Happens When Data Is Deleted?" for more information.)Īt this point, chances for retrieving data are excellent. Instead, the data delete process involves making a change to the first character of a file name thereby causing the data to become invisible in the filesystem. No Overwrites, PleaseĪ basic rule about how data recovery tools work is that deleted data does not disappear completely in the same moment that the delete key gets pressed. However, if the hard drive is no longer accessible, but is still visible from the BIOS, or if a partition or data within a partition have accidentally been deleted, then it is time to use the forensic tools TestDisk and PhotoRec. The Linux Smartmontools can process and interpret the data for signs pointing to wear and tear of the drive. One indicator that can be used to determine the health of a hard drive running under Linux is the hard drive monitoring software S.M.A.R.T. The SSD drives today are different they die quietly. ![]() They could then change out the drive before it became inaccessible. Users could therefore sometimes hear clacking noises when a hard drive was nearing the end of its life. Until a few years ago, all hard disks were mechanical. Damage to a hard disk has the habit of occurring quite unexpectedly once symptoms of mechanical fatigue appear. The latter two states occur more frequently than most users would expect. A common saying for hard drives is that they have just three states: empty, full, and damaged. Then, I let TestDisk and PhotoRec show what they could do. To conduct this test, I destroyed a partition table and deleted about 600GB of data. ![]() I found myself using the the "force rage" move frequently toward the end of the game, just to get rid of the onslaught of foes - which btw, requires the player to sit through lame, slow motion battle scenes, and watch the character slice off enemies' arms or cut enemies in half - which again, gets redundant. It probably would have been more dynamic if the game would have required certain moves for certain enemies, and more control over the combo moves. While the force moves could be utilized, again, I was unsure what the point of using one over the other was, as just about any move could kill an enemy. I completed it in about six or seven hours - a few days (other reviews complain about this).Īlso, although combo moves were afforded, it seemed that really, no specific control was required to unleashed the combo moves, other than just clicking the button and shaking the controller continuously - even an unskilled player could do that. The gameplay in itself was fairly easy, with a few challenging areas where specific jumps had to be made - other than that, the game was not difficult. ![]() Regarding gameplay, I was a little dissapointed that the classic controller option was not afforded, but the nunchuck and other controller were pretty intuitive and easily manipulated. I looked everywhere for them, throughout the game, and I only found about half of them by the time the game was over. Again, extras/power ups can be found - but they are few and far between. Although your character is afforded the ability to bash and break stuff with the force moves - there seems to be no point, other than it looks kinda cool, and to waste time.Īs far as modifiying your character, not much is available, other than force move and light-saber colors/upgrades. There seems to be only a handful of different enemies to attack - which I found very limited.Īlso, there are only about four or five scenes/areas throughout the game, most of which are dull, grey/brown ship hallways, with not much to explore or find. However, after a while the environment and enemies get a bit stale. Gotta say, at first, it was pretty awesome, all the stuff that can be done with the "force" moves. It seems to follow a previous storyline, but even if you haven't played TFU One, don't be discouraged, it's pretty easy to pick up the plot. Never played the Force Unleashed I, but considering I am a Star Wars fan, I decided to purchase this one for the Wii. ![]() Initial Star Wars fun, but very limited, drab, and gets redundant. Travel to familiar and new worlds as you attempt to elude Darth Vader's pursuit and connect with individuals from Starkiller's past. The Wii version also adds a Super Smash Bros.-inspired multiplayer mode supporting up to four combatants. Players can collect lightsaber crystals as in the first game, adding new powers, combos, and techniques to their character as they progress. ![]() An enhanced targeting system allows for more precise control, and a new fury state has Starkiller temporarily increasing his ability to cause destruction and mayhem. A revamped control scheme has you tapping a button on the Wii Remote to perform lightsaber attacks, while the Nunchuk is used to block or initiate Force powers. Starkiller's improved skills allow him to wield two lightsabers simultaneously and perform new Force techniques, such as the "mind trick," which turns enemies into allies. Gameplay once again takes place from a third-person perspective, with Starkiller using a combination of Force powers and lightsaber techniques to defeat foes across multiple environments. Yet Starkiller's former master, Darth Vader, has other designs, seeking the powerful protagonist to further his plans for overthrowing the Emperor. Continuing the events chronicled in 2008's game, Force Unleashed II has the embittered antihero on a quest to reunite with Juno Eclipse, who is now a key asset to the Rebel Alliance in its quest to dismantle the Galactic Empire. Sith apprentice Starkiller is very much alive - as a clone - in this follow-up to the best-selling Force Unleashed. For example, a green or red icon may appear next to or on top of the photo in the library. In the first step of the software pipeline, the photos will be checked on suitability to the photogrammetry process. This generates a number of distortion parameters known as a bundle adjustment. They may check them with an internal database so the program can optimize its results based on aspects like focal length, principal point, and image sensor format. For some programs, it is important to check the compatibility of the camera. This is usually a simple matter of drag-and-drop. Open your photogrammetry software of choice and import the photos directly into the project library. Recommended is a computer with 16Gb of RAM and an Nvidia CUDA-enabled GPU. Use a tripod to reduce blurriness as well as for low-lit environments that require high exposure times.Īlthough they are rapidly getting faster, photogrammetry software algorithms can take hours or even to days to generate accurate results depending on the size of the dataset. Use as little depth-of-field (DOF) as possible and focus the camera exactly onto the object for each picture. The subject has to take up a significant portion of the image space. ![]() The more photos, the better, as long as they are never taken from the same position. Lighting has to be consistent throughout the shoot and is optimal on a cloudy day.Ĥ0-50 photos are typically enough for one object. A chroma-key backdrop works great, as does a newspaper as long as it does not show the same colors as present on the object. The background of the photos needs to have sufficient color contrast with the object. Shoe polish, sprayable chalk, painter’s tape, and stone effect spray paint all improve surface scannability. Some software applications do not process featureless surfaces well. Reflective surfaces can be converted in matte using 3D scanning spray or dry shampoo spray. Transparent objects will not convert well. Make sure the object has a matte surface. ![]() Take the following additional guidelines into account: Photographers now have an extra dimension to work with.Ĭompanies that want to offer a service to 3D print models of most precious possessions, pets, or family members. Unemployment eventually leads to financial problems. There is no such thing as a functioning addict. ![]() It is often heard that people can be functioning addicts but this is nothing more than fooling one’s self to continue drinking. Even though many alcoholics are in denial about their addictions, alcoholism is always associated with unemployment. The abuse of alcohol has statistically shown an increased risk of committing criminal offenses like child abuse, rape, domestic violence, theft, and assault. There are serious social problems that stem from alcoholism. Binge drinkers can also produce alcoholic ketoacidosis. This causes reproductive dysfunction like anovulation, a decrease in ovarian mass, irregularity of the menstrual cycle, and early menopause. Examples of long term effects from alcoholism in women include brain damage, heart damage, liver damage, and an increased risk for breast cancer. And women also show to have a higher fatality rate than alcoholic men. It has been shown that women develop long term complications faster than men do. There can also be damage to the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system. Other physical effects from drinking alcohol include malabsorption, cardiovascular disease, alcoholic liver disease, and cancer. Long term use of alcohol causes a bevy of physical symptoms like cirrhosis of the liver, pancreatitis, polyneuropathy, alcoholic dementia, epilepsy or seizures, heart disease, nutritional deficiencies, sexual dysfunction, and ultimately death. Including the brain, alcohol damages every organ in the body due to the cumulative toxic effects. With brain chemistry changes, there is an inability to stop drinking and could result in alcohol withdrawal syndrome once the person stops drinking. Through long term use, alcoholism causes physiological changes in the human brain like physical dependence and tolerance. The biological mechanisms or triggers for alcoholism are not fully understood, but risk factors include stress, mental health, social environment, age, ethnic background, and sex. And similarly in the 1979, the World Health Organization committee disapproved the term alcoholism as a diagnostic entity and preferred it as alcohol dependence syndrome. ![]() In the early 19th and 20th century, alcohol dependency was actually called dipsomania. The term alcoholism was first coined in 1849 by Magnus Huss, but during the 1980’s in the DSM III, the term was replaced through the concept of alcohol dependency and abuse. It is described as an uncontrollable obsession of the mind despite the down side effects of the person’s health, relationships with those around them, and social standing. Alcoholism is a terrible disorder that affects the lives of everyone it touches. Numerous applications for the phonograph were envisioned, but although it enjoyed a brief vogue as a startling novelty at public demonstrations, the tinfoil phonograph proved too crude to be put to any practical use. Edison also invented variations of the phonograph that used tape and disc formats. The Scientific American article that introduced the tinfoil phonograph to the public mentioned Marey, Rosapelly and Barlow as well as Scott as creators of devices for recording but, importantly, not reproducing sound. The recording could be played back immediately. The tinfoil was wrapped around a grooved metal cylinder and a sound-vibrated stylus indented the tinfoil while the cylinder was rotated. Although the visible results made him confident that sound could be physically recorded and reproduced, his notes do not indicate that he actually reproduced sound before his first experiment in which he used tinfoil as a recording medium several months later. Edison first tried recording sound on a wax-impregnated paper tape, with the idea of creating a " telephone repeater" analogous to the telegraph repeater he had been working on. Despite the similarity of name, there is no documentary evidence that Edison's phonograph was based on Scott's phonautograph. Unlike the phonautograph, it could both record and reproduce sound. In 1877, Thomas Edison invented the phonograph. Along with a tuning fork tone and unintelligible snippets recorded as early as 1857, these are the earliest known recordings of sound. Phonautograms of singing and speech made by Scott in 1860 were played back as sound for the first time in 2008. In the 2000s, these tracings were first scanned by audio engineers and digitally converted into audible sound. The phonautograph, patented by Léon Scott in 1857, used a vibrating diaphragm and stylus to graphically record sound waves as tracings on sheets of paper, purely for visual analysis and without any intent of playing them back. 2.8 78 rpm releases in the microgroove era.The large cover (and inner sleeves) are valued by collectors and artists for the space given for visual expression, especially in the case of 12-inch discs. The phrase broken record refers to a malfunction when the needle skips/jumps back to the previous groove and plays the same section over and over again indefinitely. Phonograph records are generally described by their diameter in inches (12-inch, 10-inch, 7-inch) (although they were designed in millimeters ), the rotational speed in revolutions per minute (rpm) at which they are played ( 8 + 1⁄ 3, 16 + 2⁄ 3, 33 + 1⁄ 3, 45, 78), and their time capacity, determined by their diameter and speed (LP, 12-inch disc, 33 + 1⁄ 3 rpm SP, 10-inch disc, 78 rpm, or 7-inch disc, 45 rpm EP, 12-inch disc or 7-inch disc, 33 + 1⁄ 3 or 45 rpm) their reproductive quality, or level of fidelity (high-fidelity, orthophonic, full-range, etc.) and the number of audio channels ( mono, stereo, quad, etc.).
